Sliding Door Finishing.

Hello there!

The sliding door is quite a large area to cover. Its bigger than one 8 x 4 sheet and quite a fiddle to fix.Especially if you've already built a kitchen unit, which covers most of it! Like me.

So, I've used two sheets of 3mm birch ply.The bottom panel ,which was black plastic was used as a template. Before fixing ,the void was filled with a sheet of space blanket that was left over from a job. This should give a bit of extra insulation. Then using an angled drill to fix some self drilling/tapping screws.

The top section was a little harder,as there was the window to cut out and a reveal to form. The top part of the door is insulated with some 25mm Kingspan, held in with expanding foam.the board is then fixed in the same way and edged round the reveal.

Both panels have been oiled and will need sanding and another couple of coats at a later date.

Nearly finished Kitchen unit.

Hello!
I've had a big push on the kitchen unit this weekend. It needed completely rebuilding due to me wanting to change the sink with a lid,for an open one with a drainer. After living in the van for more than a day,it soon became apparent that the lid got in the way.Plus there was no drainer to act as an extra work surface.
The new sink unit worked out at 50mm longer than the old one,so a new frame work had to be built around the fresh water tank. The frame work is clad in 4mm birch ply and the doors are 15mm birch. This has then been finished with oil.
The oven /grill is a Thetford Spinflo and works very well. All that's left to do is a handle on the cutlery drawer and a couple of shelves inside the cupboard .

Worktop Construction.

Hello there!
I've made the worktop from a piece of 15mm birch ply.It was quite weighty until the holes for the sink and hob were cut out.To make it look thicker, some strips of 15mm ply have been glued round the underneath edges that will been seen. After rounding off the corners with a router,it's had a light sand and a coat of finishing oil.

Next job is to rebuild the frame work to house the oven grill.

Kitchen Unit.

Hello!
I've been collecting bits ready for a big blitz on the kitchen unit over the Easter weekend. Its only ever been a tempory unit, with the hob and sink fitted. Now that I've bought an oven/grill, it can finally get finished. Most of the unit has been stripped out ready to start.

Wildcamping/ battery Monitor

Hello!
Been busy lately, so no time to bolt things to the van.
We have managed two nights Wildcamping in North Kent though. The eberspacher was welcome as it was quite nippy at night, but loverly and sunny in the daytime.

I have managed to fit the battery monitor that I bought recently though. Its a nassa BM1.The kit and fitting instructions are very comprehensive. It was really quick and easy to fit, with no extra bits needed.
I havn't worked out everything it does yet though!

Headlamp Bulb Changing.

Hello!
This post is purely about bulb changing in the headlamp unit.If like me you don't have a manual it can be a bit daunting as it's pretty near inpossible to remove any of the bulbs with the headlamp unit in situ.
A quick post on the SBMCC ( thanks Kev) and it all became clear.I took a few photo's while I was at it.Doesn't take long once you know what to do.

First (after opening the bonnet)! There are two screws to remove at the inside edge of the unit. This will loosen the plastic trim panel above the unit.Theres a plastic push fit type clip in the centre area of the trim. This needs prising up carefully ,then the whole thing hinges out from the wing area.

Then two screws under the unit and carefully price out the clips. One in the middle and another nearer the wing. This panel was harder to remove than the top one!

Next there's three bolts to remove (10mm socket). One bolt ontop of the unit and two below
Now the whole light unit can be pulled forward enough to gain access to the bulb holder.Twist the large black round panel( centre of pic 2) anti clockwise till it clicks then it pulls out revealing the said bulbs.Squeeze open the two spring catches and remove the electric plug.Job done.

When I fitted it all back together I used copper grease on the screws/bolts.This stops them seizing and makes it easier to remove them next time.
